John and Marianne feel very privileged to live in this stunningly beautiful area where the Mar Menor (small sea) stretches 73km along a panoramic coastline. The waters are shallow, non-tidal and very safe for children. The blue flag beaches are fronted with established palm trees, many shops and numerous pretty cafes and restaurants to chose from offering an amazing variety of cuisines from around the world.
At Lo Pagan the Mar Menor meets the also non-tidal Mediterranean with secluded coves and many miles of coastline where all types of water sports can be enjoyed.
The Mar Menor is the largest salt-water lake in Europe and with it’s therapeutic mud baths, visitors return year after year. Climatic conditions with long hours of sunlight, high levels of salt and a variety of minerals give the mud amazing healing qualities. More in depth information can be found on the internet, a really fascinating read!
The colourful market town of San Pedro Del Pinatar lies behind Lo Pagan. It has a very friendly village-type atmosphere and, although many ex-pats live here, the town and its traders are still predominantly Spanish. The market is held on a Monday and should not be missed as it sells the very best fresh fruit and vegetables together with leather goods, clothes and really everything under the Spanish sun……….
San Pedro needs no excuse for a festival and the town is host to many throughout the year. Many of the festivals have fabulous firework displays the like of which we have never seen before and the atmosphere must be experienced.
The area is very flat which makes an excellent holiday venue for those who love to walk or cycle. Bike hire can be arranged. There is a bus service and taxis are not that expensive so, if you don’t want to drive you will not beat this area for its easily accessible facilities.
Transfer is only 10 minutes drive from Murcia Airport and just under 1 hour to Alicante.
